Friends I met in Egypt (2006)

These kids were so vibrant and full of energy...when I went to this area of Egypt
called the Valley of the Kings, I spent some time with them and captured a few honest
moments...I hope to be able to go back one day and find one, if not all of them, and
give them a print.

Kanye West

Kanye West popped on the stage for a guest appearance at a small promo concert for Common's new album that NBC put on this past Thursday night...The show was at a converted church that's now a concert venue. Located in the Lower East Side on Norfolk, it's called the Angel Orensanz Foundation. It's a very beautiful space. Too, I feel very privileged to have captured this classic polaroid of 2 highly respected musicians of our time hailing from the land of Chi (Chicago).

Tuesday

COMMON

Busted a quick Polaroid, errr Fuji Instant Film, at his listening party for the new album...He's a cool cat.
Props to him for manifesting and still putting out above average hip hop in today's watered down market of wanna be acts of something I cannot even beging to describe...

Wednesday

Lost in New York...

On this one, I wanted the image to have a feeling of isolation in an environment which appears to be abandoned and desolate in New York. The blue underlay is to influence the emotional aspect and condition. The fact she doesn't have makeup on in the first image, indicates a morph she experienced on the journey; a twist of sorts.

IGGY and the Garland

This image is of a gentleman named IGGY who's known in the drag scene downtown NY...Note the garland cutouts of the Abu Ghraib prisoners. A political statement, and while not blatantly obvious, the garland is a second read which functions as a subliminal message left for interpretation.

Monday

Bathroom Hoppin'

Popped into the female lavatory at Skybar on Sunset one evening to see what they were doing and what they were talking about...the funny part is they weren't even pissed.

VANS

VANS are hot again, but did they ever really not become relevant?

SUPREMATISM by Ramón Singley

What of art and the non-objective, which is to say we should peer into art works, whether a sketch or painted canvas, with a feeling of sensibility into the non verbal message, the rhythm, the underlining tonal value and line quality. We should say these things with regards to Kasimir Malevich’s notes on Suprematism. To Malevich, the ultimate feeling of Suprematism is a level of consciousness attained by few. To maintain an inclination for accessing a piece of art and the feeling evoked in the visual phenomena of our brain, this is the ultimate in the conceptualization of art; this is the materialization of the reflection of truth. The true value of art is the value expressed by the art; there’s no hidden agenda, simply a voice from within a safe place.
“…an objective representation, having objectivity as its aim, is something which, as such, has nothing to do with art, and yet the use of objective forms in an art work does not preclude the possibility of its being of high artistic value,” Malevich says. A feeling one receives when looking at art is the emotional component and deciding factor, which gives the art an embodiment of what we have come to learn as Suprematism.

“The emotions kindled in the human being are stronger than the human being himself.”

These same sentiments should reflect ones emotion when looking at a photograph or any medium of artistic expression as we ingest it. This way, the work becomes independent from the artist and acts as a sole representation in much the same way a song or melody exists independent of the presence of the musician. And if you go into the confines of some of these perpetrators environments, you will see beautiful works of art in a wide variety, which might impel you to wonder, if for just a moment where it came from in the first place. At this stage, you have no vision other than this, as Suprematism takes shape.

SOFT FOCUS PORTRAIT CONCEPT

MARITHE + FRANCOIS GIRBAUD IMAGES--ABOUT...

For the Marithe + Francois Girbaud Spring, 2008 line, I shot several garments for a promo the company was using via direct marketing and web...When I took these pictures, I wanted to evoke a feeling of stillness, a sense of vagueness and clarity...

Marithe + Francois Girbaud..."Scarfest" & "Baskette" Sneakers

The "Scarfest" is a vest that acts as a top. Arms and portion of the chest and back are exposed in a criss-cross like pattern. It's very avant-garde and bold. The person who wears this is comfortable in their skin, demonstrative, forward thinking & cutting edge. It's not the common thread, literally, that you see everyday. Coupled with the criss-cross leather "Baskette" Sneakers, one has the total Paris, Milan and maybe just maybe, New York flavour...

Marithe + Francois Girbaud "Hang Tor" Dress

The "Hang Tor" Dress is unique, in that it's casually girly with the capability to function in a formal context. I can see it as the perfect garment for an evening out at the movie premier, the summer wedding, or more casually speaking, the afternoon luch date at Barney's roof top restaurant...Either way, it's striking! Sexy!

Marithe + Francois Girbaud..."Hang Dress" & "Auster Boot"

The "Hang Dress" is very beautiful. It maintains very fine textures and patterns, and it even has
a long tie/bow one can throw around the neck or tie around the waist... It's the perfect piece
for a Spring or Summer early evening, or even late for that matter, event. It's very playful.
The "Auster Boot" is very cool. They're slip-ons with sterling silver buckles on the side with a
very slight heel.
